Anne Maatman to Phase Out as Executive Secretary

Anne Maatman has decided she can commit to serving Heartland Christian Schools through June 30, 2011, a little less than one year from now. She came to this decision based on her health for the past two years. As many of you know, she underwent surgery in April; the recovery is very slow. Her doctors are confident that her pituitary gland is functioning properly and she will eventually recover completely, gain stamina, and experience fewer headaches.

Maatman notified the board of her decision in April, feeling she was not serving in the capacity she should be and that it would be better for Heartland, and for her, if the tasks were assumed by someone else. She is willing to work, as her health permits, for the next fiscal year. As soon as (a) new person(s) is identified, she will be pleased to train and work along side that person as needed.

Please help to spread the word about this job opening. It is a part-time position, approximately one-third time. It could begin any time between now and July 1, 2011. The work includes event planning (convention, principal club meetings, board workshop, grade-level workshop), marketing, and correspondence with members.  Interested persons may contact Anne for more information.

Board Symposium ~ David Naugle, keynote speaker
Dordt College

Dr. David K. Naugle is chair and professor of philosophy at Dallas Baptist University (DBU). He earned a Th.D. in systematic theology, and a Ph.D. in humanities, with concentrations in philosophy and English literature.  Naugle is also the director of the Paideia College Society (formerly the Pew College Society), an organization which seeks to deepen undergraduate students' educational experience through a vision of Christian humanism and classical liberal education in this context.

Naugle also established and directs a weekly lecture series at DBU called the “Friday Symposium,” which features presentations on a broad range of scholarly topics.  He also established “Summer Institute for Christian Scholarship,” a ten-week faculty development program for DBU professors.

C., and is on the advisory board of the International Institute of Christian Studies. He is on the editorial board of the journal Integrite, and serves on the board of Capstone Academy, a Chinese educational initiative.

Naugle's book Worldview: The History of a Concept was selected by Christianity Today magazine as the 2003 book of the year in the theology and ethics category.  His latest book is Reordered Love, Reordered Lives: Learning the Deep Meaning of Happiness.
